3 wardrobe-maintenance tricks to instantly look more put-together (that don't cost a thing)
We love a simple style hack over here at Furlong & Gale - if it helps us revitalise an old piece, or keep our outfit looking the best it can, we're all ears. Today our team is sharing three of their favourite wardrobe-maintenance tips with you - and the best thing is, they don’t cost a thing.
- Sweater Love:
Even the nicest sweaters can end up getting that pilled and over-worn look, but we've got a simple fix. Grab a clean, unused shaving razor (yep, like the one you use for your legs), and gently run it over your sweaters or knitwear while they're laid flat. The razor will remove the pills, leaving your knits looking smooth and fresh. It’s particularly helpful on spots that see a lot of friction, like under the arms or around the elbows and is a great way to revitalise a well-loved sweater.
- Sticker Check:
Have you ever been walking behind someone, and noticed an old sticker on the sole of their shoes? It’s often half-rolled over and collecting dirt. They're usually overlooked but can make your footwear look less than cute. When you pick up some new shoes, take a moment to remove those stickers - they're usually clear with gold symbols and are there to show the material composition. It might be worth checking your current shoe collection too - it’s a super-simple fix to keep your whole outfit looking clean and maintained.
- Correct Fit:
An age-old tip for jackets with back vents. You'll often find a string holding these vents together, but it's not meant to stay there forever. It's just for keeping the vents flat during shipping. Before wearing your new jacket, simply remove that thread. This minor adjustment ensures your coat drapes correctly, avoiding any awkward fits. It’s one of those things that once you know about it, you’ll notice still-closed jacket vents everywhere!
It’s often the little things that make a big difference in how put-together an outfit looks, and we hope these simple tricks help you feel a little more put-together throughout your week!
